Mudfire IV - Lines and planes

This is the third take on building an oven deck with fenceposts and firebrick. Borrowing a notion from the railroads, there are now two "ties" under the several rails. Much flatter now. Just for giggles I put a level on it and it turns out to be less than half a bubble off.
The area/volume of the space between the underside of the deck and the reactor core allegedly has some bearing on the performance of the system. Not real sure how scientific this hippie technology really is so I'm trying different "gaps" between the deck and the cylinder. I accomplish this by lifting out the bricks and adding/subtracting mud on the top of the reactor cylinder. Haven't noticed any drastic changes in the fire's behavior yet.
All in all, it's still quite crude. I have fired it up three times now, and there's still paint burning off the fenceposts. Mmmm, smoky black.
